Unsteady Lift Slope Values Obtained from Flight Measurements in Gusts

چکیده

SUINARY Flight measurements have been made of the unsteady lift due to gusts on a Meteor 7 aircraft. Values of the lift slope obtained from these measurements show a marked reduotion with increasing frequency, and in the range 1 to 5 cIp.a~, da(f) df =-0.2 per oppose; at 5 c.p.s. the value of the lift slope is reduced to three quarters of its steady state value, The main experimental errors inherent in the measurements are shown to be small over the frequency range considered and the experimental values of lift slope compare reasonably well with theory.

On the Estimation of Time Dependent Lift of a European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris) during Flapping Flight

We study the role of unsteady lift in the context of flapping wing bird flight. Both aerodynamicists and biologists have attempted to address this subject, yet it seems that the contribution of unsteady lift still holds many open questions. The current study deals with the estimation of unsteady aerodynamic forces on a freely flying bird through analysis of wingbeat kinematics and near wake flo...

State-space representation of the unsteady aerodynamics of flapping flight

State-space representation of the unsteady aerodynamics of flapping flight" (2014). ARTICLE INFO ABSTRACT Article history: A state-space formulation for the aerodynamics of flapping flight is presented. The Duhamel's principle, applied in linear unsteady flows, is extended to non-conventional lift curves to capture the LEV contribution. The aspect ratio effects on the empirical formulae used to...

Control of a Semi-Circular Planform Wing in a “Gusting” Unsteady Free stream Flow II: Modeling and Feedback Design

The research outlined in our two parts abstract is carried as part of a MURI research program whose purpose is to use feedback flow control to extend the range of aspect ratios, Reynolds numbers and angles of attack (AOA) for which high lift and high maneuverability can be achieved. Our work is motivated by the remarkable aerodynamic performance of bio-fliers wings, enabled by their stable lead...

Free-Flight Measurements of the Dynamic Longitudinal-Stability Characteristics of a Wind Tunnel

The dynamic longitudinal-stability characteristics of a st,andard wind tunnel interference model have been investigated in free flight over a Mach number range of 0.92 to I, 35.. Measurements of lift-curve slope and manoeuvre margin were obtained, and are compared vjith results from transonic-tunnel tests under low blockage conditions. The analysis was extended to obtain damping derivatives to ...

Unsteady aerodynamic models for agile flight at low Reynolds numbers

The goal of this work is to develop low-order models for the unsteady aerodynamic forces on a small wing in response to agile maneuvers and gusts. In a previous study, it was shown that Theodorsen’s and Wagner’s unsteady aerodynamic models agree with force data from DNS for pitching and plunging maneuvers of a 2D flat plate at Reynolds numbers between 100 and 300 as long as the reduced frequenc...
